A Hermès Special Order, often called an HSS or Horseshoe Stamp bag, is a Birkin, Kelly, or other eligible Hermès bag made specifically to a client’s chosen specifications through Hermès’ invitation-only Special Order program. 

Depending on the options offered that season, the client can select elements such as leather, colors, color placement, stitching and hardware, allowing combinations that may not exist in regular production. 

The small horseshoe symbol beside the Hermès stamp identifies the bag as a Special Order. Hermès began using the horseshoe to designate these custom orders around 2006, which is why older custom-made Hermès bags may not carry it.
