Dating to 1991, this extraordinary Soies V olantes piece was created as a one-off for an Hermès window display in Paris. It was not part of a conventional production run. And it was not a special order made for a private client.

THE ARTWORK BEGAN AS A SILK SCARF

Before appearing on this exceptional Hermès piece, Soies Volantes, or “Flying Silks,” was created by French artist Loïc Dubigeon as an Hermès silk carré in 1991. Dubigeon was a painter, illustrator, and designer whose Hermès work is known for its extraordinary density of imagery, movement, nature, and fantastical worlds. Traditional kites made from bamboo frameworks and painted silk become an airborne menagerie in Dubigeon’s hands.
